Calling all artsy kids

Got a teen or tween who likes to express him or herself? Kids ages 10-18 can join the free Arts Corps program at the The ARTS @ Marks Garage, 1159 Nuuanu Ave. On Thursdays through the end of May, visual and performing arts workshops are being held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Last week was Intro to Stage Combat taught by representatives from the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival. The next four weeks will cover Zine Publishing with the Friends of the Library. Get ready for football

Bring your little football fans to the University of Hawai’i Warrior Spring Game April 28 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. The free event will give fans of all ages the opportunity to play games get some snacks and get a first look at the 2018 Rainbow Warriors. Gates open at 3 p.m., with the team introduction at 4:45 p.m., followed by drills and a scrimmage, hosted by Bobby Curran. Shopping the kids will love

OC16 is  partnering with Kapolei Shopping Center celebrate the center’s 25th anniversary with a Spring Fest April 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will feature games, bouncers and entertainment hosted by Tiny Tadani. Meet and take pictures with two costumed guests: a Polynesian princess and a wayfinding warrior inspired by the film “Moana.”  Kapolei Shopping Center is at 590 Farrington Hwy. Plant Some Cuteness

Halawa Xeriscape Garden is holding a workshop where kids can recycle a milk jug into a kitty planter 10:30 a.m. to noon April 28.

Add some succulent plants and you’ve got an adorable, eco-friendly, drought-tolerant art project. Participants must bring their own milk jug. Cost is $8. Register by April 27 by calling 748-5315 or emailing workshops@hbws.org. Halawa Xeriscape Garden is at 99-1268 Iwaena St.

 

Skate on the Beach

A skateboard competition “Hell Of A Paradise” will be set up on Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki, complete with a  Y-Ramp. Skateboarders Mark Gonzales, Christian Hosoi and Steve Caballero, along with locals Malakai Montes, Heimana Reynolds and Evan Mock will be there to compete, along with the Adidas and Krooked skateboarding teams. Practice starts at 11 a.m. April 21, with the contest running at 2 to 7 p.m.

Free Movie for Military

In honor of Military Child Month, Consolidated Pearlridge Theatres is screening “Hotel Transylvania” for free for military families at 10 a.m. April 21. The general public is asked to make a cash donation (suggested donation: $3 kids, $5 adults). Wear purple in support of military children and receive a voucher for a free Nestle candy treat from the concession. Visit www.consolidatedtheatres.com.

The Great Outdoors

Next week is National Park Week so if you live on Maui or the Big Island, or will be visiting, plan a trip to Haleakala or Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and receive free entry on April 21.
