Intro to Hawaiian music

Keiki can try out the world of Hawaiian music in the Still and Moving Center’s Keiki Hula Halau: Mini-Series with Implements with Malia Helela. The classes are on Sundays throughout July and introduce kids to two Hawaiian instruments — ipu and pu’uli. The also learn some hula movements and will have an opportunity to perform on Labor Day, Sept. 3. The cost for the class is $75. Beginning 3- to 6-year-olds class at 8:30-9:15 a.m. Continuing 4- to 6-year-olds class at 9:30-10:15 a.m. and 7- to 12-year-olds at 10:30-11:30 a.m. Register  here.

Sailor Moon sails back into theaters

The iconic Sailor Moon returns to the big screen in “Sailor Moon R & S – The Movies” and “Sailor Moon SuperS – The Movie” this summer. “Sailor Moon R & S – The Movies” will feature both, “Sailor Moon R,” and sequel “Sailor Moon S” on July 28 at 12:55 p.m. and July 30 at 7 p.m. “Sailor Moon SuperS – The Movie,” the third movie in the series, will screen Aug. 4 at 12:55 p.m. and Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. with the debut of the short, “Ami’s First Love.” Tickets for both movies are available at www.FathomEvents.com

Cool off with a movie

“My Little Pony” is the star of June 20’s Twilight and Dive’n’Movie Night at Went’n’Wild. General admission after 2 p.m. is only $19.99 and junior (42 inches and under and over 3 years) are free with a paying adult. It gives you enough time to hit a few rides before staking out an inner tube at the wave pool for the movie. On July 7, the movie will be “Star Wars – The Last Jedi” followed by “Hotel Transylvania 2” on July 14, “Coco” on July 21 and “Jumanji” on July 28.

 

Kids First! free films

Head over to the University of Hawaii’s Art Auditorium on the next four Sundays for the 12th annual UN Kids First Film Festival. There will be family-friendly shorts and full-length films screened for my favorite price — free. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the movies start at 3. Here’s the lineup:

Museum of Aloha

Pearlridge Center’s summer exhibit opened with a confetti blast earlier this month. The Museum of Aloha’s The Experience is series of highly Instagrammable exhibits that has taken up residence in Uptown Center Court through July 1. The seven interactive experiences include a Confetti Volcano, a Balloon Tunnel and a Streamer Photo Booth. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Da Snack Shack will be giving out samples of its Nitrogen Ball Treats. Mondays through Thursdays, Cookie Corner will give out treats. Admission is $10 per person.
