Gnarly painting opportunity

Teaching kids how lucky they are
Sometimes in this world of excess, it’s hard to convey to kids how lucky they are. That’s where The Compassion Experience comes in. This free interactive event teaches kids what life is like in in developing countries like Kenya, Uganda and the Dominican Republic. The 2,000-square-foot exhibit takes visitors into recreated homes, markets and schools. Best of Honolulu Festival returns
The 3rd Annual Best of Honolulu Festival is back with a day full of free family fun with featuring food, bouncers, entertainment and a marketplace 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14 at on the Honolulu Hale grounds. For details, click here.
Shadow puppet activity
Hawaii State Art Museum will be hosting the Hawai’i Quilt Guid at its Second Saturday at HiSAM event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14. Bonnie Kim will be on hand to teach keiki how to make shadow puppet at the free event.

Yet another chance to stretch out in the warm summer breeze and take in a movie under the stars: Movie On The Lawn – Oceanside in Aina Haina. Honolulu Cookie Company is letting customers get into the chocolate-dipping process at a free Dipping Event 3-7 p.m. July 12 at the Beach Walk store on Lewers Street in Waikiki. Sounds like a good excuse to stop in for a treat on the way to the beach.

Jurassic tour
Most dinosaur events are a look but don’t touch affair. But the Jurassic Tour at the Hawai’i Convention Center July 7 and 8 encourages kids to see, touch and even ride the prehistoric animatronic beasts.
