Full moon celebration

Bishop Museum is honoring the Tsukimi No Kai, the Japanese practice of full-moon viewing  5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 25. There will be an offering, blessing and tea ceremony, plus taiko drumming and food tastings. The planetarium and the Science Adventure Center will be open to guests. Telescopes will be set up by the  Hawaiian Astronomical Society for a closer look at the night sky. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 kids at www.bishopmuseum.org/special-events.

Harry Potter mania

Harry Potter has inspired countless children to tackle thick chapter books. The libraries celebrate the young wizard with several events this week.

On Oct. 22, the Kaneohe Library is hosting a free Potter-themed escape room at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. for kids in grades 2-6. Call 233-5676 to register. Then on Oct. 24, it’s the teens’ turn at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. again for kids in grades 7-10.

Or on Oct. 24, head over to the Kalihi-Palama Library for a free screening of  “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call 832-3466.

Sea Life Park is Spook Life Park

From noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 20, Sea Life Park will feature admission of $13.01 (Halloween’s date backwards) and feature trick-or-treating, an underwater pumpkin-carving competition and show “Legends of the Sea: Beware the Creature of Debris.” There will also be a costume contest so dress the keiki in their Halloween gear. Presto! It’s Family Sunday

The Honolulu Museum of Art is helping you get ready for Halloween at Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday: Hocus Pocus 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21. Kids can make a unicorn tail and horn, make a Halloween-themed lantern or check out magician Harvey Ouchi in Gallery 30 (show time 10:45-11:45 a.m.). Creepy nature

Kids can go the the Pearl City Urban Garden Center (955 Kamehameha Highway) 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20 to learn about creepy critters like the invasive Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle and Little Fire Ant. There will be snacks, games, crafts sppoky stories and more. Admission is free. Kids are encouraged to dress like a bug or wear their Halloween costume. Search Chase the CRB on Eventbrite.com.

Hansel and Gretel are back

Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center presents the classic tale of Hansel & Gretel with shows at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and 27 and 3 p.m. Oct. 21 and 28 at Kaimuki High School. On Oct. 27 and 28 kids are invited to dress up and take part in special activities. Kids in costume will get a treat bag. Tickets are $10 adults and $5 kids and seniors. Visit khspac.org.
